photography, video, sound, text
I became interested in salt as a material and as a prerequisite for almost all life. Currently, the salinity of the already brackish Baltic Sea is diluting further. When I look towards the future, it is shadowed by concern, as the Baltic Sea ecosystem is unwell.
The exhibition examines sea salt as a material and the Baltic Sea through an audiovisual lens. This multisensory exhibition combines photography, moving image and sound. The works have originated from a place of love and concern for the Baltic Sea, developed over time spent on its shores. The timelapse technique used in the video work reveals the slow crystallization process of salt. In the photographs, moments captured in the archipelago are juxtaposed with experimental studio photography of sea salt. The project has been developed during artist residencies at Aboa Vetus Ars Nova in Turku (2025, 2026) and at the Eckerö Post and Customs House in Åland (2025).
